For 27 year PHOTO L.A. has celebrated and brought together the photography and arts community. It is with this mission in mind that we presented a photo competition with our partners  A & I FINE ART PHOTOGRAPHY  to help provide emerging and mid career artists/photographers opportunities to broaden their career opportunities and promote their work.

What is FOCUS PHOTO L.A.?

Through our long established partnerships with world-renowned photography galleries, art fairs, museums, and publications, FOCUS PHOTO L.A. seeks to expanded career opportunities for the winner’s of FOCUS PHOTO L.A. and provide the winners opportunities that would not normally be within their reach.

What could I win?

For this Spring/Summer edition of FOCUS PHOTO L.A. the work of the top 20 finalists will  be printed by A & I Fine Art + Photography and then framed by our partner A/C Gallery and exhibited in Arles during Les Rencontres de la Photographie.    The Grand Prize Winner will win a round trip ticket to Arles and a three night stay.  The FOCUS PHOTO L.A. Spring/ Summer  2018 exhibition will run July 2-8, 2018 in Arles during Les Rencontres de la Photographie .

How do I enter?

To enter, simply Register here. Upload your 10 images, and submit them into the competition.  UPLOAD INSTRUCTIONS:  JPG images only! Images must be less than 8mb in file size.  Photos must be saved at 72 DPI before being uploaded. (300 DPI will be requested and sent separately if you become a finalist.)
Please rename files before uploading so they do not contain any APOSTROHES or SPECIAL CHARACTERS. (" ' @ \ / | : < > *) .

Once you have provided the nominal entry fee ( $60 for 10 images), your images will officially be entered into the current competition and you will receive a confirmation email. 

 

What are the file requirements for printing if I'm chosen as a finalist?

Finalists will need to provide a file that is 24" on the longest side at 300 dpi in either a .JPEG or .TIFF file format.

All layers flattened.

8-bit RGB mode.
Saved as a tiff or jpeg with an embedded profile, “Adobe RGB 1998” suggested.

300 dpi @ 24” wide.  

 

Can I submit more than the minimum of 10 photos?

Yes. You may submit as many photos as you wish. Just fill out the form again- the nominal entry fee is per every 10 photos.

Who are FOCUS photo l.a. and photo l.a.?

For 27 years  Photo L.A. has celebrated and brought together the photography and arts community.  It is with this mission in mind that we have presented a photo competition to help provide emerging and mid career artists/photographers opportunities to broaden their career opportunities and promote their work showcasing them at the largest, longest-running Fine Art Photography exposition in the West.

The next edition of  Photo L.A. will be January 31 - February 3, 2019  at the Barker Hanger  showcasing photographic art ranging from vernacular, vintage, modern, contemporary, and photo-based work.  With over 10,000 attendees each year, dozens of programs, lectures and seminars, and over two decades of history, photo l.a. is a fixture in the world of fine art photography, attracting international collectors, galleries, and dealers.

 

Who determines the winners?

The finalists of each FOCUS Photo L.A.  [competition] are determined by a rotating panel of world-renowned art and photography experts. Following their decisions for the Top 20 Finalists for each competition, the judges will move forward to determine who will be the Grand, Second, and Third Place Winners.

 

Who owns the rights to the images I submit?

You do. We may only use images submitted to us for marketing, promoting, and executing FOCUS Photo L.A.. only.    The winning works are exhibited and then are held for promotional purposes. Our use is non-exclusive, and we will never sell your work without a clear agreement from the photographer that outlines proper compensation.
